As some of you know last year my brother ken, moved in with us here in AR to undergo treatment for esophagus cancer. After a rough year of treatment, he was able to get his own apartment here in Jonesboro. He had just got settled in, when saturdays weather created a lot of damage.
Already without heat going into the storm, severe cold and snow, broke a pipe in the ceiling of the apartment. Water began pouring out of the walls around the electrical breakers and flooding the apartment. He was unable to reach management and called the fire department. The emergency responders tried to contact the apartment management, being redirected to several different numbers to no avail. Finally they cut into the ceiling to clamp the pipes. Leaving my brothers apartment completely destroyed, and him homeless. After several days with no response from the complex manager, on Monday he finally heard back and was given another unit.-With lots of character, but comfy. Unfortunately he is still without water, as it seems the entire complex is still.
I knew my brothers struggle, but until the news did a story on the situation,I never realized how many people are living week to week, and are struggling to flush toilets, or even drink fresh water here locally. I feel for the tenants who are suffering, and don’t want to complain because they’re afraid of loosing more than they already have.
I am setting up this go fund me for my brother, because I know how discouraging it was for him to just get everything in his home and then to lose most of it. With his esophagus cancer he spends a majority of his time in a recliner for digestion, he lost that and his bed this past weekend. We are now back on the hunt for household items, and that creates more time we get to hang out together which can be fun. (Always a silver lining).
If you are able to, and want to help, he would be so grateful. I always tell him what a great community we have in, now I’m hoping to show him.
Thank you guys!
