Help Ken Kapea fight Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

On behalf of our beautiful friends we have decided to put together this fundraiser with their reluctant permission.

For those who don’t know Ken and Chanelle they are the very proud parents of 4 beautiful kids; son Daymen a very talented aspiring artist, Abel who is an absolute little gun of a footy player at 7years old playing U9s for Wynnum Manly Juniors Rugby League Club. Addi their little ballerina and brand new preppie and gorgeous 1 year old bubba Journey. Their kids are their absolute life, Chanelle spends most of her time running kids to activities, volunteering to manage Abel’s touch footy team, school activities, baking up a storm and just being the absolute super woman she is!! Ken has been the hardworking sole provider for their family, something he takes such pride in (so you can only imagine how hard it has been for him to accept our help). When Ken’s not working you will find him tinkering with his 4wd, motorbike or out camping. His favourite job though spending his Sunday mornings running the line as Touch Judge at his son Abel’s Rugby League games.

In July of last year Ken was diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. His doctors were optimistic and started him on a very aggressive course of chemotherapy. For 6 months Ken endured all that was thrown at him as he underwent treatment. He still managed though with the support of his workplace to show up for work and provide for his family. Unfortunately treatment was not successful and the next step was to undertake a stem cell transplant. Ken spent 4 weeks in hospital away from his wife and kids while Chanelle held everything down at home on her own to undergo this procedure in December. Since, it’s been a long and tedious wait to find out whether this procedure was successful and unfortunately on the 1st Feb Ken and Chanelle were given the devastating news that the stem cell transplant was unsuccessful and Ken’s cancer had spread. The next step on Ken’s journey is a bone marrow transplant which will require Ken to undergo weekly chemotherapy sessions to keep the cancer at bay until a donor match can be found. With weekly chemotherapy sessions Ken will no longer be able to work and as Chanelle is caring for all 4 kids on her own as well as being Ken’s carer she is also not able to work.

For the last 6 months we have asked Ken and Chanelle to allow us to fundraise for them and they have refused. They do not want to burden anyone or take when they were still able to financially get by but with the latest news we would really love to be able to at least lift one burden off their shoulders and let them focus primarily on Ken’s treatment and care. All funds raised will go directly to Ken and Chanelle and will help them with basic living costs while Ken is not able to work. So only if you are able to we are asking for donations to help Ken and Chanelle through this extremely difficult time for their family. Every dollar counts and is very much appreciated. If you can’t donate we ask that you please share.

Thank you
