Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out on behalf of my friend Kemar, whose Mom and Dad suffered devastating damage to their home during the passage of Hurricane Melissa. While we are incredibly grateful that everyone is physically okay, their house was severely impacted.

During the storm, the zinc covering the wooden shingles was completely torn off, and for hours, rain poured directly into their home, destroying nearly everything inside.

Now, the entire electrical system is compromised, and all their furniture and belongings are soaked. As it continues to rain intermittently, in an effort to stay dry, they have patched together pieces of the ripped-off zinc sheets to cover parts of the house. Unfortunately, what’s left now is more of a strainer than a roof, offering little protection from the weather.

We recognize that many Jamaicans have suffered even greater losses, and we were hesitant to reach out for help knowing how widespread the devastation has been. However, the cost to bring some semblance of normalcy to Kemar’s mom and dad is far beyond what we can manage on our own, and we are hoping that others might be able to pitch in.

The immediate priority is to replace the roof so the family can have shelter from the elements and begin to pick up the pieces. Communication has been limited, but I managed to get a few photos from the family that show the extent of the damage.

Please consider donating. Any amount helps. Your support will go directly toward repairing the roof and helping Kemar’s family rebuild some stability after this unimaginable ordeal.

Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.

Many thanks,

Coaine
