Hello!
My name is Kelsey Takahashi and I am trying to publish my children’s book about adoption called But I Don’t Look Like You. I have an open adoption, meaning I’ve known about my adoption and biological family since I can remember. Knowing that each adoptive family has a unique background, my book was written to address topics that any adoptive family could explore. The narrative covers conversations that may be difficult to start, like exploring the biological family, dealing with curious friends, the intention behind being given up, but most importantly, the love behind every decision. This book would have helped me when I was younger because I was the only adopted kid I knew... I wrote each line with the image of my young-self dealing with these thoughts, and I hope my book can bring comfort to others as well.
With your help, I think my book can make a big difference in normalizing open conversation between adopted children and their families. You will help finalize the printing of my story and make it a real book (which, as it turns out, is quite a pricey ordeal). I want these kids to know that they are not alone, it is alright to want to know more about themselves and their story, and that no matter what, they are deeply loved.
Thank you so much for your help in making my dream come true! If you contribute more than $50, you can receive a copy of my book signed with a thank you note! Please email [email redacted] with your contact information to get your copy of the book! Thanks again.☺️
