Kelsey is the single mother of an amazing 10-year-old boy, Cooper and the sole provider for her household. Kelsey has faced and overcome many obstacles in her 36 years of life but her continued perseverance and positive attitude have gotten her through anything and everything that has stood in her way. Kelsey is once again being challenged and we are asking for any support you are able to provide for our beautiful friend and co-worker.
As some of you may be aware, in being proactive with her health, Kelsey had an annual well woman exam which she thought would be similar to those she had in the past. Unfortunately, she found out she had an abnormal pap which required a cervical biopsy. Still maintaining that positive attitude, Kelsey underwent the biopsy with the thoughts and hope that the results would come back negative.
Sadly, the results came back positive for invasive squamous cell carcinoma on her cervix and she would require surgical intervention which meant a radical hysterectomy. On September 13, Kelsey underwent surgery with the continued hope and prayers that it would result in the removal of any and all cancer cells. She ran into some complications from that surgery but still continued her best to smile through the day and the tears that crept up occasionally.
We were all prepared for the good news that all the cancer had been successfully removed but Kelsey’s physician informed her that tumor cells were found in her lymphatic space and she would require five weeks of radiation therapy.
Kelsey has remained determined to be the best and most present mom to Cooper in his first year of sports through all of this and has attended as many games as she could. She’s also shown up for her job whenever possible. The dedication to her amazing little man, Cooper and her job is ever present with that positive "go get 'em" attitude.
If there is a silver lining in any of this, it is that Kelsey will be able to receive treatment in Miles City. Her plan is to try to continue to work as much as possible to support her household and her young son, Cooper. She wants to watch him play basketball , spend time with her boyfriend, Jeremy and his young son, Jasper. The treatments will require her to spend multiple days away from home every week. Although her spirit remains strong and she is hopeful to be able to continue working when she’s not receiving treatments, realistically, she will be unable to work her full time schedule.
In today’s world with costs going up, we all know rent, food, utilities and the expenses of fuel can be a challenge when we are able to work a normal schedule, much less having to deal with the added expenses of travel, food, and lodging while receiving cancer treatments. Due to her other procedures and the recovery time that was required, she has also exhausted her paid time off and sick leave and is concerned about her ability to provide for herself and her family.
We are hoping that by telling Kelsey’s story and reaching out to our communities, family and friends, we can provide Kelsey with some relief (both mentally and monetarily) for the challenges she and her family will be facing in the days, weeks and months ahead.
If you are able, please consider supporting Kelsey’s Fight Against Cervical Cancer. And we always welcome thoughts and prayers for strength and healing to help her through this journey of fight and recovery. We thank you for your kindness!
