Hello, my name is Bret, and I am trying to help out a friend I met, who has been dealt a very bad hand when it comes to medical issues.

 

I had first read about Kelly on the Next Door site about 2 years ago, where people were asking for help in bringing Kelly and her teenage son food and helping with housecleaning due to her chronic illnesses. As I followed the postings about all of Kelly's medical issues, it struck me that no one was offering any help for her son (Kelly’s Ex is minimally involved in their lives and child support is intermittent.) and I thought it must be really hard on him to see his mom coming and going to the hospital.

 

Having two young boys of my own, I got in contact with Kelly and said I would like to help out with her son, Noah, by hanging out with him occasionally. Noah has Asperger’s syndrome and also suffers from social anxiety. We go to lunch and talk about his love of video gaming (totally foreign to a 62-year-old man whose only experience with video games was Pong and Pac-Man!). I usually buy him school clothes and some Christmas presents (this year I got him a new VR headset and he was blown away - glad to see a huge smile on his face) and we go to his favorite burger place and just talk.

 

Kelly's health continues to be a roller coaster, she has COPD, Gillian-Barre Syndrome, Lyme disease and CIDP (a neurological disorder) that have all played havoc with her body. She has IVIG (some type of plasma replacement therapy) several times per week and just got back home from a two-month stint in the hospital.

 

So, as I said earlier, life has dealt her a pretty crappy hand in regard to her health and it weighs heavily on me that someone has been in so much pain for the last few years, while struggling to raise a teenage boy.

 

Her monthly disability payments don’t’ even cover basic expenses and since the Ex has been out of a job for the past 6 months, she is really getting behind on rent and other bills. I started paying her gas and electric bill a few months back, as she needs to be on oxygen 24/7 and having the electricity turned off would be catastrophic.

 

Good news is that her Ex has told her he is starting a job next month and child support should start coming back in, but she needs to dig out of this financial hole and my goal in starting this Go Fund Me account for her is to get her enough of a nest egg to try and get her back on her feet again.

 

I have set this account up so the donations go directly to her bank account; I have no access to these funds!

 

Since I am not that computer savvy, and basically have no social media presence other than Facebook, I have set up the account to where anyone that would like to be a Team Member could join and help me reach as many people as possible to help Kelly and Noah out.

 

I am giving $500.00 to get this account up and running and while I certainly don’t expect anyone to match my donation, if you could donate what you can afford, I would be most grateful.
