As many of you may know, our Mom Kelly has been battling severe back pain & scoliosis of the spine for many, many years. As a precursor to a Major Reconstructive, 3-day back surgery at Mayo Rochester, they started doing testing... and unfortunately, they discovered an underlying, larger issue: Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a form of blood cancer. MDS is a condition with the bone marrow, and in her case she is not creating enough healthy blood cells. Initially, it was mild, and they continued monitoring it for a couple years. They continued monitoring it over time, and she has been getting monthly chemo treatments since March 2024, along with getting blood transfusions as needed.
However, it has progressed, and her medical team said a bone marrow transplant will provide the best prognosis. A donor was found, and the Bone Marrow Transplant is scheduled for April 15, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She will then need to remain in Rochester for 100 days of intense supervision and treatment, with a full-time caregiver along with her. Thankfully, she has already been working with Shannon Camlek and the foundation that Shannon created: Home 4 Healing, and our mom is blessed to be able to stay at the Hyatt House for the full duration of her stay.
However, there is still a nightly cost associated with her stay for the full 100 days. Expenses will also include groceries, gas to and from Rochester, and living costs on top of other regularly scheduled bills. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will allow her to focus on battling this health challenge.
