In June of this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. By August, I began my first round of chemotherapy, which unfortunately led to a month-long hospital stay. The treatment was so intense that I lost all my toenails, fingernails, and hair, and the skin on my hands and feet peeled away in layers. It was a terrifying experience that nearly took my life, and I am still working to recover.
While I was in the hospital, a government shutdown caused me to lose my state insurance and switch to Medicare, which now charges a premium I simply cannot afford. The financial strain has been overwhelming, especially as I try to focus on healing. Just last Friday, I underwent breast surgery to remove the tumor, and I am not supposed to lift anything over five pounds. But with my boyfriend of 15 years recently blowing out his knee and unable to work, I am left to manage our home and daily needs on my own. The stress of keeping the power on, paying rent, and finding wood for the fireplace to stay warm has made it difficult to relax and recover.
I do receive food stamps, which helps with groceries, but the costs of living expenses, pharmacy bills, heating, phone, and rent are more than I can handle right now. If anyone can help with bills or wood for the fireplace, especially since it would need to be delivered, I would be deeply grateful. Your support would mean the world to me as I work to heal and get back on my feet. God bless you all.
