Help Kelly keep her home.

Hi, my name is Kelly. I am 60 years old. I have owned my home for 11 yrs.

On October 4, 2025, my husband of 4 years was charged with Spousal Assault, Uttering Death Threats and Strangulation.

He had been very agitated that morning and I tried not to react. Eventually I took my truck keys and tried to leave. He ran out to the truck and tried to drag me out, severely spraining my wrist, ripping my forearm open and when he couldn't get me out he strangled me and said "I want to kill you". I couldn't move or scream, I was frozen. He released my neck and demanded I get back in the house.

He was to drive me to work because he needed my truck and so he did. He kept shouting, I asked him if he meant what he said earlier and he said yes.

At that point I knew I couldn't live any longer with him. I called the OPP and reported what had happened. I am very grateful for the support I have received. Victim Services changed all my locks and installed two cameras. The victim Witness Assistance Program is supporting me through the criminal case and communicating with the Crown Attorney.

I am a well educated professional. The only reason I mention this is that often people wouldn't think this could happen to them. I certainly didn't. When I look at the picture of myself with my children, I see someone who is exhausted, stressed and sad. I am usually a kind, upbeat, motivated woman. I have been diagnosed with PTSD and l am receiving therapy and counselling trying to get over this trauma, heal and get on with my life.

When I think of Michael I feel nothing. Not anger or love. I just want him out of my life permanently so I can continue the rest of my journey in peace.

I have kept afloat for the past 7 months but the court system takes time and I've used up the majority of my savings retaining a divorce attorney and keeping up with my bills. Michael has placed a designation (lean) on the matrimonial home. He convinced me we didn't need a prenup and guaranteed me he would never come after my home. I told him it was to go to my children. He lied. I feel the fool for believing him.

Please help me not to become homeless as he said I would. I love my home. I know most of my neighbours by name. I feel safe in this community. My children come every Sunday for dinner. It is home to my support dog and rescue cat.

Any donation would be gratefully accepted. I never thought I would be placed in this situation and I am humbly asking for help.

Sincerely,
Kelly Thatcher
