Help Kelly & Isla get to Kentucky
As many of you know I was one of 300 trainers from across the US and Canada selected to compete in the 2020 Retired Racehorse Project. Due to Covid the 2020 class was pushed back to this year. The whole challenge of this class is that you are required to find a horse (thoroughbred specifically) that has been trained to race (must have been entered in races or have recorded training runs) & retrain it for a different discipline. You then take your horse to Kentucky to compete against others that have done the same. I have chosen the show hunters as the discipline in which we will compete. I’ve spent the last year retraining Isla & have taught her to jump. That being said, it is becoming financially difficult with the rising costs of everything right now & no other clients to split expenses. Being that we are so far away, travel, lodging, layovers, etc, are starting to add up. Additional costs include show fees, braiding, stabling, etc.
This organization & project I hold dear to my heart. What many may not know is what potentially happens to these horses if they don’t produce on the racetrack. Whether they are injured or don’t want to run (which was Islas case) many are sent to slaughter. This program allows these awesome horses a second chance at life. Many go on to be amazing partners with a different career path. We appreciate any support, whether it be financial or moral. Thank you all for any consideration.
