On Thursday, January 8, Kelly woke up and experienced a sudden cardiac event followed by a seizure. Joey immediately called 911. When EMS arrived, Kelly required defibrillation and lifesaving measures to revive her, but she was unable to regain consciousness and was transported to Regions Hospital.

Upon arrival, Kelly continued to have seizure-like activity and was promptly placed on a ventilator and admitted to the ICU. After extensive testing, doctors determined the likely cause was critically low electrolyte levels, specifically magnesium and potassium. Kelly remained on the ventilator for approximately 48 hours. She is now stable and recovering, but doctors anticipate she will likely need a pacemaker to help prevent this from happening again.

This medical emergency was completely unexpected. Kelly’s discharge date is still unknown, and Joey has been unable to work while caring for her and being present for their family during this critical time. Between emergency services, ICU care, ongoing treatment, and the possibility of a pacemaker, the medical costs are significant and continue to grow.
