As some of you know, and many may not, my sister Kelly has been courageously battling an extraordinarily rare autoimmune disease that is attacking her lungs and muscles. Over the past few months, this illness has turned her world upside down, culminating in a recent episode that left her unable to speak or walk. She had to be hospitalized for several days and, with the help of physical and speech therapy, has made some progress—regaining much of her voice and beginning the tough journey toward walking and performing daily tasks again.

Kelly’s strength and determination inspire us every day, but the road ahead is long and challenging. On Thursday, her team of specialists in NYC requested she return again from her home in upstate New York to the hospital for further testing and treatments. They expect her to remain in the hospital through the holiday.

Kelly is a 4th-grade teacher, living out her dream job with a passion that is nothing short of inspiring. She adores her students and pours her heart and soul into shaping their young minds. Her love for teaching is undeniable, and the impact she makes in the lives of her students is truly extraordinary.

Right now, Kelly is unable to work, and her fiancé, Sean, and our parents have been by her side, doing everything they can to support her during this difficult time. Despite their unwavering love and care, the financial burden of Kelly’s medical expenses, treatments, and time away from work is overwhelming.

If you know Kelly, you know how fiercely independent and strong-willed she is—she doesn’t like to ask for help. That’s why I’m stepping in to ask on her behalf. I’ve created this GoFundMe to give Kelly the ability to focus solely on her recovery: regaining her strength, completing her treatments, and working toward the ultimate goal of returning home to her 20 month old son, Landon.
