Kelly Trotter has been courageously battling cancer, which has now spread to her bones. She has also suffered strokes that have left her unable to work and in need of ongoing care. Her daughter, Dixie, is an upcoming senior working hard to complete her education through Penn Foster. She is on track to graduate this year once she finishes her final paper. We are incredibly grateful that a generous member of our community has stepped forward to cover the remaining tuition so Dixie can reach this milestone. Like any mother, Kelly wants nothing more than for Dixie to focus on school and finish strong without the burden of working long hours to help make ends meet. She also longs to be present for Dixie during this important season while still wanting to be there for her own mother, who is in a nursing facility.

Recently, Kelly opened up to my cousin Tammy about the challenges she is facing. Tammy’s girls and Dixie have been close friends since kindergarten, creating a strong bond between these families. When the idea of moving Kelly and Dixie onto Tammy’s land was shared, Kelly was incredibly appreciative. We are committed to being good stewards of every dollar given. Funds will go toward purchasing a camper, preparing the land by extending septic and upgrading electricity, setting up utilities, helping with medical needs and transportation, and providing meals to ease daily burdens. For now, their furniture will need to be stored as we prepare for this transition. While there are upfront costs, this is the most practical long-term solution. Tammy is generously offering her land, and bringing Kelly and Dixie closer allows our Taylor community to come together to serve, provide meals, and support this family in meaningful ways. Our hope is to move them as soon as possible so they can have stability, care, and peace during this difficult season.
