The short:
Kelly recently broke her foot and needs help to cover the cost of surgery and recovery. We are trying to raise $20,000 that will go directly to cover her medical expenses. Thank you for reading more below and sharing!
The not so short:
To know Kelly is to love her. She is a go above and beyond and give you the shirt off her back kind of person. At some point, she has probably brought you a gift or a meal to brighten your day, helped in a bind, made you laugh or cut your hair. As her friend, she has done all of this for me and my family, plus so much more in the short two years I have know her. I can say she is genuinely one of the most kind and generous humans I have had the privilege of knowing. I’m honored to get this opportunity to help her and I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. Which is why I’m writing today, I’m asking for your help to cover the cost of Kelly’s surgery to repair her broken foot.
Kelly, Cody and their 3 year old daughter, Valerie had plans to move back to Florida from California to seek a better lifestyle and income for their family. Kelly was excited to go back to work as a Barber at Bob’s and Cody was working on finding a new job in the trucking industry that allowed him to be closer to home. The evening before they were set to drive across the country, Kelly was tightening the final strap of the storage container on top of their van, when the strap broke. This sent Kelly crashing down from the roof of the van, onto the concrete road. We are thankful the fall was not worse, as her dad was there to catch her fall. But she immediately knew something was wrong with her foot and went to the ER. There, it was confirmed she had a broken the calcaneus bone (heel bone) in her right foot and was told she would need surgery.
The Deese made the difficult decision for Cody to continue the cross country trip alone to Florida and start looking for work. And for Kelly and Val to stay close to family in California where they could have more help and wait for surgery.
Kelly is scheduled for surgery to repair the fracture with a mesh plate and screws on 1/25/23 in California. As she and her husband were both between jobs, they are stuck with the full financial burden of paying for surgery and recovery out of pocket.
We are trying to raise $20,000 to help cover the cost of some of these medical expenses which currently include:
* ER bill
* Appointments with Orthopedic Surgeon
* CAT Scan
* Surgery
* Hospital Fees
* Medications and equipment
* Physical Therapy
Post surgery will require her to not put weight on her foot for 8 weeks, then approximately 6 months more to be able to walk independently and start physical therapy. Since Kelly is a barber and needs to stand on both feet to work, she is unsure how long it will be until she is able to return back to work.
The cost of a cross country move is already financially taxing and adding this expense on top, honestly just felt like too much. Thank you for considering helping Kelly relieve some of this financial burden, so she can put her energy into working on healing and recovery.
