Help Support Kelly & Dave Through Their Medical Crisis
To my friends and associates—
I never imagined I’d be starting a GoFundMe page. Honestly, I’ve often felt these types of pages can be misused and done for the wrong reasons. But in this case, it has weighed heavily on my heart, and I truly believe this is something that needs to be done.
I'm raising funds for a couple of my patients—now dear friends—who are facing incredibly difficult times. To respect their privacy, I’m using only their first names.
Kelly was diagnosed in September 2019 with a rare blood disorder and blood cancer that affects her red blood cells and bone marrow. This condition leads to blood clots, and doctors must keep her iron and ferritin levels extremely low to prevent clotting. As a result, she battles chronic anemia, resulting in dizziness and severe migraines.
She’s been undergoing ongoing treatments at Emory Cancer Institute—regular infusions, phlebotomies, and surgeries. Last year, she suffered a mini stroke and complications with her gallbladder, which led to additional surgeries. Right now, she’s being treated by both an oncologist and a neurologist in Atlanta and is dealing with a clot near her C2 vertebrae and cognitive problems including short-term memory loss.
Even with insurance, the medical bills have become overwhelming. Kelly and her husband Dave, both retired law enforcement officers with over 30 years of service, have had to put their home up for sale to downsize and try to stay financially afloat. Dave is doing landscaping work daily to bring in some extra income, but the medical debt continues to pile up.
My wife and I were able to help them catch up on their house payments to prevent foreclosure, at least while their home is on the market. But they are still facing a mountain of expenses and uncertainty.
This isn’t a want. It’s a need. These are hardworking, honest people who have hit an incredibly tough patch in life. I can’t sit back and watch them lose everything while they fight for health and stability.
If you’re able to help in any way—no matter how small—please know it will make a real difference in their lives. If you’d prefer not to donate through GoFundMe, feel free to contact me directly or stop by my office.
Thank you for your support, your prayers, and for helping me help two people who truly deserve a break.
