Help Kelly and Matt Save Growler's Life
Donation protected
My name is Kelly, and my fiancé and I have recently rescued a family of 5 feral cats. I understand life is very hard for everyone, but we have been met with a calamity. I have never asked for donations before, for anything, but one of the feral young cats no older than a year has fallen into critical care. Her name is Growler, and she is currently staying a few nights at Northwood Animal Hospital getting a blood transfusion, which a second one is planned. She fell into severe anemia from fleas, and she will be hospitalized for a couple of days, have two blood transfusions, and has already been treated for fleas and internal parasites.
Upon arriving at the vet, the staff were quick to take Growler from my arms, as I was holding her in a towel. Growler was in a state of distress—hardly breathing with a low heart rate and little brain activity. After the first emergency blood transfusion, her blood pressure went from 90 to 96. While it is still low, she has regained a steady heartbeat and can breathe on her own. However, the doctor told us that she stares off into space, in a comatose state. He does not know if this is temporary or permanent, and we will know more tomorrow. But he said he was "cautiously optimistic," which gives me hope while staying realistic. Her chance of recovery has increased after her first transfusion, and I hope her chances keep increasing.
The doctor has not given us an estimated cost for what we will be paying, but we have already paid a deposit of around $2,000. We are asking for $4,500, just in case Growler's vet bill is higher, and any extra would cover her 3 siblings and mother's vet costs, who also need to be treated for fleas and internal parasites, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered.
Life is hard for feral cats, and all we want is to provide them with a safe shelter, food and water, and love. If you spot a flea on your animal, do not take it lightly. Please, take them to the vet immediately or you will end up in our situation.
Thank you to everyone who read this, whether you're thinking about donating and/or have donated.
Your potential donation means the world to us!
Sincerely,
Kelly and Matt
UPDATE: Growler has regained brain activity and her blood cell count is 31 (it used to be 9!). The doctor said she had died and her chances were very low. She still has not eaten (most likely anxiety and the stress her body just went through), but they are going to watch her for one more night to make sure she has recovered safely.
