Help Kelly and Kalila Find a Safe Home

Donation protected
Hey all, my name is Kelly and I’m a single mom of one daughter named Kalila. I currently live in Norwood, MA and have moved here 3 months ago to get away from an abusive relationship with my baby’s father.

I was given a last minute notice to quit/vacate by my landlord about 5 days ago, stating that he planned on adding a 2nd bathroom and to redo some internal reconstructing to the house and that no one can be in it.

But 3 days ago I came home & thought it was just him showing the apt to the construction person, but there was a 3rd person as well. That person turned out to be a new landlord that is supposedly buying and taking over this property by Jan 1st and that is when the construction is supposed to start.

When I first moved in here, noting was fixed. The walls weren’t even painted and there is still a whole tile missing on the bathroom floor with a slight hole in it.

I signed a 6 months lease at this apt and I’ve only been here for 3 months, I’m not late on rent, it’s all been paid within the month. And now they’re saying we’re not forcing you out but reality is, I have a 2 almost 3 yrs old daughter, and I can’t live with her in a house where they’re going to start painting and construction etc.

I don’t have any savings, because this past month I had to fight for custody of my daughter, because my baby’s father lied to court telling court I was neglectful etc. So I was out of work for court and any money I have goes to food and bills. So I only have enough to pay for the deposit for the new place. But needs help for the first month if I want/have to move out by the 1st. ($1800)

I went to city hall yday & they told me that he can’t legally do anything or start any construction while I am there until he has properly served me papers. He also wouldn’t release my deposit back to me at first until all of my stuff was moved out of this apt he said, but eventually he sent only partial, ($750 out of $1000), because I said I need it in order to use it for the new apt’s deposit. It is just crazy that he is trying to withhold it tho.

Growing up, I’ve always been independent & did things on my own, and never wanted to rely on anyone if I can handle it myself. But sometimes things just get a bit too heavy for myself, especially with everything happening during the holidays.
