Help Mother and Daughter Battle Cancer Together
Donation protected
Please join us in supporting my sister Kelly Nazariya and her family during this unimaginably difficult time.
Kelly is a wife to Daniil (a SCSO Deputy) and a mother to 3 young children. Their family has been through hell and back these last few years battling their 6 year old daughter, Evie's, brain cancer. It has been an extremely long and difficult journey. Kelly has been driving Evie to her numerous doctor's appointments several times a week for almost 4 years now! Evie recently had a regression in her progress and was put on an even stronger chemo. She is still currently in treatment. During this already horrible time, Kelly too has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of cancer called Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). It is hard to even believe that one family could have to undergo such an unfair situation.
Kelly was born with a genetic disorder called Nf1 and was diagnosed with a benign tumor at childhood. The tumor was located at the apex of her lung and extended in to her spine and brachial plexus nerves. The risks outweighed the benefits to remove it and the doctors felt it was inoperable at that time.
In December, Kelly began to have pain in her right arm, tingling in her fingers and a lingering cough so they did an mri which revealed that the tumor had doubled in size. Due to the tumors rapid growth, her doctor then ordered a pet Ct and the findings showed concern for malignancy. Shortly after, he ordered a biopsy to determine the pathology and how the tumor would need to be treated. The biopsy resulted in high-grade MPNST.
After doing lots of research we found the best surgeon for this type of tumor. Kelly reached out to a neurosurgeon at John Hopkins in Maryland to see whether surgical removal of the tumor would be an option. He feels that the tumor is too large and complex to be surgically removed at this time. He is requesting that she undergoes 2 cycles of chemotherapy, in hopes of shrinking the tumor, then potentially operate in August.
Kelly will hopefully begin chemo asap. Please pray that her tumor responds positively to the 2 cycles. We are also praying that her cancer does not metastasize or spread while we wait for potential surgery.
The chemo that was recommended to Kelly is the strongest chemo out there and has been nicknamed "red devil" because of how aggressive it is and how terrible the side effects are. This will be a very difficult time for the family.
As you can imagine their family will need substantial help during this time. With both Evie and Kelly in chemo they will need help driving both of them to appointments and treatments. Kelly will most likely not be able to care for her home or children while going through this aggressive chemo.
Once the chemo is completed Kelly and her family will need to fly to Maryland for surgery where they will incur significant travel expenses. They will need to stay in a hotel for approximately 10 days. After her surgery and difficult travel back home Kelly will most likely need to undergo another round of chemo and potentially radiation treatment as well. They foresee that there will be a 6 month recovery after such a complicated surgery. And that is with the hopes that her nerves are not damaged during the procedure.
We are starting this fundraiser to help support their family financially during this treacherous time. Since Kelly will not be able to care for her home or children during the time, they will need a housekeeper, meal plans, childcare etc. There will also be expenditures for medical supplies, comfort, grooming and personal care supplies, a good quality wig, medications/supplements etc. Furthermore they will need help with travel expenses- airfare for the family, hotel, meals, transportation etc.
If you have it in your heart please consider donating to the cause. If it is not within your means to do so we would still love your spiritual support during this time. Let's raise our voices in prayer for this family and for the treatments and recovery for both Evie and Kelly. But also for the rest of her family, husband and children who will be struggling during this time.
We will keep you updated as treatment plans are confirmed, as well as progress and other family/medical updates.
