Help Kelley get a Seizure Alert Dog!

I’m Paige, a friend and customer of Kelley from the art community. I am starting this fund with the goal of raising $11,000 towards the training and purchase of a Seizure Alert Dog for Kelley.

In early 2020, Kelley developed sudden onset of intractable seizures and chronic complex migraines. Her medical team has not pinpointed the source of her seizures which makes treatments difficult as migraines also increase her seizure activity. Because of the virus, her care was slow to start and she spent almost all of 2020 in bed and continues to spend a lot of time lying down for her safety. Having 10 or more seizures a day and not under control, she hasn’t been able to live the life she deserves especially as a wife to Brian, mother to Fern (7) and Vera (3) and a small business owner as a watercolour paint maker.

She told me that she was looking into a seizure alert dog that would give her independence and offer piece of mind to her loved ones. It will take 1-2 years for the dog to be speciality trained by the charitable organization Amazing Tails and the cost to purchase the dog is $10,500USD (Additional $500 is to cover fees with this platform). There is a skillset that the dog will focus on and Kelley will work with the dog and trainer in community based situations to perfect skills in the final stage training.

Having a seizure response dog would allow Kelley the ability to be mobile and get to places by walking, it would allow for her to do independent self care such as showering alone. It would provide counter balance for walking and aid her to get up if she falls. Being able to cook using a stovetop and oven, something she is not allowed to do without supervision. A Seizure Alert Dog would offer Brian more confidence that Kelley could be left alone with the girls for periods of time and would be able to manage her health as best as possible. Fern and Vera- I am sure they will be thrilled to have a dog in their lives for any reason but more importantly, having a more present mom.
