Help for Keling Gissele Herrera Ortiz

Our friend Keling Gissele Herrera Ortiz, 21 years old, is going through one of the most difficult moments of her life and needs our support and solidarity to overcome this unexpected and painful situation.

This fundraising campaign has been created to cover her immigration legal expenses and attorney fees, which are necessary to fight for her freedom and allow her to remain in the country that has been her home for almost ten years.

Keling crossed the border from Nicaragua at just 11 years old, in November 2015, full of hope and dreams for a better future—like so many other immigrants seeking opportunity and safety. She graduated from Key West High School and has always been a hardworking, kind, and dedicated young woman who actively participates in her community. Many people know her from Old Town Mexican Café, Home Depot, and McDonald’s, and you’ve probably seen her working somewhere else too, since she’s always been a determined and hard-working person who faces life with humility and effort.

Unfortunately, she was working cleaning boats and, like every day, was on her way to work when, passing through Key Haven, immigration agents scanned her license plate and stopped her. She was taken to the Broward Transitional Center in Miami, where she was held for three weeks, and then transferred to Arizona, far from her family and friends.

Her attorney believes there are strong legal grounds to fight her case and obtain her release, since Keling arrived in the U.S. as a child and has always kept her documents in order.

However, the legal process requires an estimated cost of $10,000, an amount impossible for her to cover alone.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a big difference and will go directly toward Keling’s legal expenses. Your help can mean hope, justice, and a second chance for a young woman who simply wants to continue building her life in the country that has been her home for the past ten years.

Nuestra amiga Keling Gissele Herrera Ortiz, de 21 años, está pasando por uno de los momentos más difíciles de su vida y necesita de nuestra ayuda y solidaridad para salir adelante en esta situación tan complicada e inesperada.

Esta campaña de recaudación de fondos se ha creado con el propósito de cubrir los gastos legales de inmigración y los honorarios de su abogado, necesarios para poder luchar por su libertad y permanecer en el país que ha sido su hogar durante casi diez años.

Keling cruzó la frontera desde Nicaragua a los 11 añitos de edad, en noviembre del 2015, llena de sueños y esperanza por un futuro mejor, como muchos otros inmigrantes que buscan oportunidades y seguridad. Se graduó de la Key West High School y ha sido una joven trabajadora, amable y dedicada, que siempre ha participado activamente en su comunidad. Lamentablemente, se dedicaba a limpiar botes y, como todos los días, iba camino a su trabajo cuando, pasando por Key Haven, le escanearon la placa y la detuvieron agentes de migración. Fue llevada al Broward Transitional Center en Miami, donde estuvo tres semanas, y luego fue trasladada a Arizona, lejos de su familia y amigos.

Su abogado considera que existen fuertes bases legales para pelear su caso y lograr su libertad, ya que Keling llegó al país siendo una niña y ha mantenido todos sus documentos en regla.

Sin embargo, el proceso requiere un costo legal elevado de aproximadamente $10,000 dólares, una suma imposible de cubrir sin apoyo.
