A little background, my brother Keith Giberson, graduate of Eastern Regional High School class of 1992, who was an educator at Glassboro High School and Lenape Regional High School where he was a chemistry, physics and engineering teacher for 22 years, suffered from Type 1 diabetes for 41 years. One major long term effect is troubles with your vascular system. In October of 2016 he had robotic bypass surgery at the age of 41. Just after his 42nd birthday he had a stent put in, December 2016. Two months later in Feb 2017, he had a massive stroke. He then had a craniotomy to remove the excess blood that had leaked onto his brain
Like with any diabetic, recovery has been slow. Day by day he made strides until he had a bleed, he made 2 more visits to the hospital where they ultimately had a portion of his stomach and intestine removed. These two visits limited the amount of therapy he was able to do and complete because he was still recovering, slowly from the abdominal surgery. He then completed inpatient therapy, in home therapy and finally outpatient therapy.
Unfortunately, the time has come when he is not eligible to receive anymore therapy. However, our Pop, Mike Giberson has found a great opportunity at a place called Project Walk, in Mt. Laurel, NJ. http://projectwalknj.com/ The only drawback is they do not accept insurance, so all expenses come directly from the patient, friends and family. It is $110 a day! He has been going when his finances allow him to do so. The trainers there are very optimistic in fact he has already walked 54 ft with them twice. They feel that with some hard work he can walk again and not need his wheelchair.
His goals include: being the best father to his two children Nikolai and Sasha, going back to being a Physics teacher, walking down the aisle with his love of his life(They dated for 4 years in his early 20’s)
and giving his beautiful daughter Sasha away at her wedding, which is years to go.
We ask that you please consider donating, no amount is too small, to help Keith walk again. All funds will strictly be used for his recovery, in a separate account.
This amount will allow him to get through 30 days of therapy. Thank you in advance!
Sincerely,
Shaun Giberson (aka Baby Bro)
