Help Keila Stay in School

Hi everyone,

My name is Yolande, and I’m a single mom who has been navigating a challenging period in my life. I’ve been out of work for the past 8 months due to a serious injury at work, which left me with facial fractures and a herniated cervical disc. I’m still waiting for a spinal specialist appointment, and while I’ve been able to manage most of our household bills, things are becoming incredibly difficult.

For those who don’t know, my daughter Keila has faced significant mental health struggles, especially throughout the pandemic. Like many parents, I had to juggle remote learning, but it became painfully clear that Keila was not only falling behind in her education but also dealing with bullying and racist attacks at her public school. The weight of all of this became too much for her to handle, and she was hospitalized.

Despite our efforts to work with social services and her school, the support was minimal, and the school’s response was to push her into an alternate program rather than address her real needs. I refused to give up on Keila and did extensive research to find a better solution. Thankfully, I discovered a private school that understood her mental health struggles and accepted her for her 10th-grade year.

The difference in Keila’s life has been nothing short of miraculous. She is thriving, has regained hope, and has even set her sights on post-secondary education. However, we now face a tough challenge: her tuition for Grade 11 is past due, and Grade 12 tuition is fast approaching. If we cannot come up with the funds, Keila could lose her spot at the school that has made such a positive impact on her mental health and future.

While I am exploring every possible avenue for financial support, I am turning to this GoFundMe as a last resort. If you’re able to contribute, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us.
