Hi everyone — we’re Breann and Rene, a queer disabled couple trying to build a more stable life together. In just 48 days, our lease ends and we’re moving cross-country for a fresh start with better access to care and support. This move means everything to us, but a sudden car crisis has put it all at risk.
Last month, our SUV died unexpectedly. The mechanic confirmed it wasn’t worth fixing, so we sold it for what we could get, got a little help from friends, saved aggressively, and after two weeks with no car, we got a used car off Facebook Marketplace. We immediately invested in a full tune-up, oil change, and new spark plugs to make sure it would be road-ready for the long drive.
After the tune-up, the mechanic informed us it needs a major part replaced. The lowest quote we’ve found is around $800. While we’ve been scrambling to cover that, we’ve also been dealing with frustrating title issues from the previous owner that have added extra paperwork and costs. Then today it started leaking fluid, so something new (or worse) is clearly going on.
All of this unexpected repair work has eaten into the moving funds we had carefully saved. Without a safe, functioning car, we literally can’t make the move on time or transport our belongings. As two disabled people, reliable transportation is essential for our health and independence.
We’re raising $1,500 to get us safely on the road. Funds will go directly toward:
* The ~$800 major part and labor
* Diagnosing/fixing the fluid leak and any related issues
* Title transfer fees and final safety/inspection costs
* Replacing some of the moving money we had to divert to these emergencies
Any amount helps — even $5, $10, or $20 adds up fast. If we go over our goal, we’ll update the campaign right away with exactly how the extra is used (or we’ll lower the goal). We’ll also post repair receipts, progress photos, and updates so you can see the impact of your support.
We’re doing our best to stay hopeful and keep moving forward despite chronic health challenges and this last-minute setback. If you can donate, share, or just send good thoughts, it truly means the world during this stressful time.
Thank you so much for reading and for any help you can give. Together, we can get this car fixed and start our next chapter safely.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Breann & Rene ✨
