I’m Adam, the founder and editor of Urgent Matter, an independent art news publication I launched in October 2025 after losing my job at Artnet in March 2025. Since then, I’ve also become a stay-at-home parent to two toddlers, and I’ve been doing everything I can to keep this publication going while trying to grow paid subscriptions. I started Urgent Matter because I believe independent reporting on the art world matters, but I’ve reached a point where I can no longer afford to personally cover its operating costs. Without support, the publication may not survive.
This fundraiser is meant to keep Urgent Matter alive for another full year. The first $6,000 will cover its core operating costs, including Ghost Pro hosting, Dropbox cloud storage, Foxit PDF software, Zoom for virtual interviews, iCloud, phone service, and reporting-related expenses such as PACER bills and records-request fees that come up during investigations. If this fundraiser goes beyond that initial need, added support could help strengthen coverage, make it possible to hire freelancers, and help fund the printing of what is now the publication’s digital “print” edition. Please help if you can. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help keep Urgent Matter alive and support its ability to continue serving readers with independent reporting.
