Help Keep Tropicasa Alive!

Current zoning ordinances hinder our ability to grow as a business and service the broader dj & art community of Mcallen and the RGV.

For the past 3.5+ years, Tropicasa has become an integral part of the “Arts District” on Main St., contributing significantly to the local economy and cultural scene. Since 2020, we've witnessed the revival of the arts district and music scene, thanks to the collective efforts of Main street businesses and Tropicasa.

Our space has become a cornerstone of our community, offering vintage clothes and a unique array of vegan snacks and beverages some of which you won't find anywhere else in this city, this neighborhood, or this region.

We’ve had the honor of hosting over 175+ events, ranging from gallery exhibits to community markets, drag shows, runways, and live DJ and music events. We’ve even provided a platform for over 50+ local DJs, helping them secure residencies and gig opportunities at various venues across Mcallen, the valley and state.

Our reach goes far beyond our city, featuring artists from around the world, such as Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles, New York, Mexico City, Miami, Monterrey, Peru, and more. And now, we're reaching even broader audiences with our weekly livestreams on platforms like YouTube, Soundcloud, and Twitch.

Yet, we face challenges.

Zoning restrictions, parking requirements, noise complaints, and other constraints threaten our growth. Because of this we’ve been forced to put our events on hold which has resulted in a decline of our business’s income.

We need our community’s support to navigate these challenges otherwise we risk our doors closing.

Your contribution will help us maintain this unique space to ensure we remain a vibrant part of our city and continue platforming underserved talent.

Project goals:

1. Create an immersive & functional space that is allowed to host live music events, markets, and creative dance parties.

2. Enhance our online radio broadcast platform with new equipment such as an in-house desktop, up to date dj equipment, cameras and studio monitors. Maintaining Radio Tropicasa will ensure we get to continue highlighting local and global djs.

3. Book local, global, national, and international talent increasing our creative footprint. More bookings will create more engagement between local & out-of-town musicians/artists creating networking & gig opportunities for artists inside and outside the valley.
