Hey folks — we’re Keith and Kori, the husband-and-wife duo behind The Tomiko Restaurant. Since taking over the day-to-day in 2021, we’ve done our best to keep this little diner warm, welcoming, and filled with the smells of good food and fresh baking.

This little spot in Tilden Lake has been feeding families, travellers, outdoor enthusiasts, and neighbours since the late 1950s. It’s always been family-run, and it’s always been about more than food.

What’s Happened?

Our kitchen exhaust system is no longer serviceable. The insurance company initially requested a routine cleaning to keep it safe and operational. However, after nearly a year of trying to find a company willing to clean and service it, it became clear that the system can’t be brought up to code — it’s simply too old and worn out.

To meet current safety and insurance standards, the entire exhaust system must be replaced.

The Cost & Timeline

We’ve received quotes for this full replacement and upgrade to the fire suppression system. The total cost, including taxes, is $25,000.

Our insurance provider has given us 30 days to secure the necessary funds, as the property owner was unfortunately unable to do so. If we are unable to raise the necessary funds within the 30 days the restaurant will close.

Why This Matters

The Tomiko has survived for decades because of the people who believe in it. We’re not a chain. We don’t have deep pockets. What we do have is love for our community, pride in what we do, and a stubborn determination to keep serving our food — and our hearts — every day.

We’ve come this far with grit and gratitude. Now, we’re asking for a little help from those who’ve ever enjoyed a warm meal here or simply believe in keeping small, local, family-run restaurants alive.
