My puppy, Leo, my mom, Kelly & her dog, Preston, and I have been doing a cross country road trip with my camper van to share adventures from around the United States to anyone that finds them interesting or inspiring through my YouTube channel @WesWherever. We have gotten to share camping trips from 12 of the 33 states that I planned for so far, so we've gotten to cover a lot of beautiful places, but still had so much more to come.
Unfortunately, the van started having transmission and engine problems in Raleigh, NC, so we are effectively stuck here 2800 miles from home. After getting the issues diagnosed from 3 different shops to be safe, the estimate for the repairs is sitting at over $7000. After hearing this, I was considering towing the van back home and saving up for repairs or another van all together, but I had multiple people suggesting I start a GoFundMe.
It feels strange to be asking something of all of you, as it's my goal to bring fun adventuring content to you and I never try to ask for anything in return. But for the greater good of keeping the road trip and content alive, I think it is worth giving this a shot if some of you are willing to help. I want to thank Stephanie, Jeff, Justcotywithat, Jacky, and Matt from Two Feet Outdoors for suggesting I start this campaign. I posted an update on my Instagram, @WesWherever, and was very touched and humbled that you immediately brought this up and offered to help.
The repairs that are needed include a transmission swap/rebuild, rear main seal leak repair, spark plugs & wire set, and diagnosing and fixing an engine misfire - I was told it could be the fuel pump or catalytic converter, but it still needs a full diagnosis. I was also told the rear shocks should be replaced, but it doesn't seem urgent, so I will only replace that if we raise some extra funds beyond what is needed for the most important repairs.
Funds up to $7000 will go towards the primary important repairs needed, while anything beyond that will go towards additional repairs (such as the shocks), as well as directly helping fund the road trip and content to come. I will provide receipts of all the work that gets done, so you know that your contributions are being put to work where they should.
I want to thank you all for being so supportive. Whether through your wonderful comments, those of you that email me with helpful advice and wisdom, or simply watching the videos - I do this for you, and I could not do it without you.
