For many years The Ice Chalet has seen thousands of people come through their doors for the sole purpose of enjoying the world of ice skating. Whether it be their first try, regular Friday night skates, practicing and improving hockey skills or sharpening figure skating edge work, jumps and spins this rink has been a Knoxville tradition since 1962. The Ice Chalet has a magnificent history with many additions and changes through the years. Robert Unger’s establishment of his skating school along with becoming a charter member of the Ice Skating Institute of America (Ice Sport Industry) revolutionized the training field of figure skating. This skating evolution supported Mr Unger’s philosophy of “participation, not elimination” which created a passion of skating to exponentially grow among many skaters. One such skater, Mr Larry LaBorde, not only had a tremendous show skating career but has continued what Mr Unger established and added his own enthusiasm with instruction. So many people have grown up with the Ice Chalet and felt it has been their home. I personally feel we are facing a crucial time with the possibility of losing this Knoxville fixture due to the current global pandemic. I have started a go fund me page to try and give back to a business that has given so very much to its community. Now, we are looking at the possibility of losing this charming mountain lodge decorated ice rink to the unfortunate strain of the pandemic. My husband grew up skating here and we have loved raising our daughter here and we would love for our grandkids to have the opportunity to be raised skating here.
Please consider making a donation to help this small business affected by the pandemic make ends meet and hopefully endure. This fundraiser will help pay utilities, loan payments, running costs and necessary maintenance.
thank you in advance.
