Hello Ab rats, York Students and Alumni!
The Absinthe Pub and Coffeeshop, located in Winters College’s infamous room 013, is a much-loved part of York University. The Ab is the longest standing and only remaining student-owned, operated, and run pub on campus. It is a place where all students are welcome, whether they are looking for a place to study during the day or a place to catch up with friends during the night.
Back in 2018, we asked for your help to keep our doors open and survive the York University strike. It is now 2021, and after nearly two years of COVID-19, we ask for your help once again.
TO EVERYONE WHO HAS
-dressed up for an Ab Halloween or Valentines day
-cried over a break-up at the Ab
-celebrated an Intramural hockey win at the Ab
-faced their stage fright at an open mic or karaoke night at the Ab
-watched their first drag show at the Ab
-Met your life-long friends at the Ab
-had their first legal drink at the Ab when they turned 19
-stood on the patio and sang songs at midnight even when it was snowing
-Felt at home at the Ab
. . . the pub needs your help to make it through the year.
Since the pandemic started, we were closed for almost 550 days. When we finally opened, it was under tough restrictions and limitations from the province, city, and university which has made business very difficult. In addition to this, we haven't been able to host any of the events that you all know and love since March 2020. With your help, we can hopefully get them up and running again once we get approval in January.
If all of our fellow Ab Rats donate even the cost of a single pitcher and a plate of nachos, the Ab might have enough to survive.
We turn to you as a last resort. Every dollar counts and the funds raised will go towards administrative costs, upkeep and maintenance, payroll, and inventory. If we make it through the pandemic, we plan on having a night dedicated to thanking our valued supporters.
Thank you for all your support throughout the years-
Sincerely,
The WINTAB board of directors
