Thanks to all of our 70s family over the past 10 years! Knowing that you're enjoying the music and memories is exactly why we do what we do.
On June 1st, we experienced a power outage which resulted in the catastrophic loss of our server--as well as a lot of the audio, info, heart, and soul of San Francisco's 70's HITS. Since that time, we've been able to temporarily get the station running. At this time, embarrassing as it sounds, what you're hearing is being stored and streamed via a home laptop that's more than a decade old. We estimate this will give us roughly 3 months to find another solution.
If even HALF of our listeners contributed 50 cents, you'd not only completely secure our station, but you'd hear some fantastic giveaways on the air as well as other great changes. You can help keep San Francisco's 70's HITS on the air, celebrating the 70s for years to come! Aside from our fundraiser here, we have a "donation" button at www.70sRadioHits.com where you can contribute automatically each month.
Asking for donations has never been an easy thing for us. We've considered going the "commercial" route but realized that we'd quickly sound like many other stations and would lose your interest.
San Francisco's 70's HITS has never been about making money. What started as a personal quest to capture the sound of an era, amazingly and thankfully turned into one of the most listened to independent 70s stations available online. We are now approaching 100,000 "favorites" on Tune-In, our main listening platform.
Without getting too technical, we believe that moving the operation to an off-site (cloud-based) server would provide the most stable way to keep the 70s alive and eliminate any downtime for our listeners. We currently struggle with local power and internet provider outages which take us off the air more than a dozen times throughout the year.
With your help, we can overcome the challenges and continue to enjoy a decade of music that is so important to us all! We have some wonderful listener-appreciation ideas planned if we can get past our present hurdles.
