In less than ten months, our beautiful boy Talen has been through more than any child should ever have to face.
He was diagnosed with an aggressive Burkitt lymphoma and has since endured eight major chemotherapy blocks, a bone marrow transplant, major surgery to remove his tumour and create a stoma, repeated serious infections, line infections and replacements, a rare aggressive infection, VOD, PICU stays, and a 76-day hospital admission.
After his transplant, we finally let ourselves hope that this was the end of it — that it had worked, that it was the cure, and that we could begin to see a normal life ahead for Talen again.
Only one week after coming home from hospital, we were told the lymphoma had relapsed. Within two days, it had spread into his blood and bone marrow.
We are now hoping for an extremely new treatment being sourced from overseas to help kill the cancer. We do not yet know whether it will work, or what comes after it. CAR-T therapy may be the next option, but due to the barriers and red tape in Australia, we may need to either fund treatment overseas or pay for a company to manufacture it here, with costs being up to 500,000
We have had a GoFundMe before, and we are so incredibly grateful for every person who has already donated, shared our story, sent messages, or supported our family in any way. That support has helped Talen through this journey and means more to us than we can ever put into words.
Right now, we cannot leave his side. Our whole world is focused on giving him every possible chance. Doctors have spoken with us about palliative care, but Talen has overcome so much already. He still has so much fight in him, and we are not ready to stop fighting for him.
If you are able to help in any way, it would mean the world to us. Every donation, share and message of support helps us keep fighting for Talen and gives him the best possible chance. Let’s prove he can do this — he deserves that chance.
