Help keep Stephen Wilde in his home

Donation protected
Stephen needs some help.

This campaign is to try and help a guy stay in his apartment of 18 years and not have him fall through the beaurecratic cracks and become homeless.

Although there are county and state programs to help the homeless they require you to actually be homeless and living on the street to qualify for their assistance.

We need to get Stephen's landlord some payments quickly or Stephen will be homeless.

This campaign is to help one of the original Marin County mountain bikers. He rode with the originators of the mountain biking sport and has led a low-key lifestyle in Marin since then.

He's a Canadian Ex-Pat and has been in Marin since about 1967. Due to being dealt a series of bad hands by life (ongoing health issues) he finds himself in a precarious position.

Stephen had a serious heart malfunction in December of 2016 and spent 9 days in the hospital. During 2017 he was able to receive disability payments as he rehabbed to recover his stamina so he could go back to work. Although he improved, he was not able to get back to a state of health where the doctors would allow him to do any type of normal work. He tires quickly in about 90 minutes due to his ongoing heart weakness.

Also during this time Uber made enough headway in Marin County for the owner of the cab company (where Steven had worked) to shut it down due to poor revenue.  So the option of becomming a dispatcher disappeared.

Since the first event in 2016 he has been back in the hospital a 2nd time for multiple days in 2017 due to his heart condition. Then while helping a friend he fell down some stairs and broke his hand. Althought that has healed up it also limits what he can do.

The paperwork Stephen had received led him to believe the disability payments would continue into 2018 but it turns out that information was false.

So he applied for his social security and was told he does not (at this time) qualify to receive his benefits.

Stephen finds himself in this situation because when he applied for a social security card back in the early 1970s - they issued him one!

So he has worked and paid into the SSA system since then and thought that if he ever made it to the SSA benefits age and had to retire, he would receive the safety net benefits he had earned.

But unfortunately, (as a Canadian citizen at that time), there were some additional hoops he was supposed to have jumped through to complete the full SSA process and qualify to receive his benefits when he retired.

The SSA never notified him of the need to do more paperwork (but they did collect his SSA payments).

So, although he has paid into the system he cannot at this time received any benefits.

Efforts to rectify this bureaucratic snafu are underway but because the government departments move (very very) slowly (and he was only made aware of the shortcomings when he needed the benefits), he has slipped past on his rent and needs to look for help.

His landlord has been very understanding and accommodating but as he relies on the rent payments for his own livelihood he does need to receive some money *quickly* in order for Stephen to continue to live in the small in-law apartment he's lived in for the last 18 years.

Stephen sold his non-operational car and sold off all of his bicycles except one. And that is for sale and on display at the Mountain Bike Museum. But that is the last of his assets.

Until his SSA account is made whole he has no income.

*All funds* donated to this campaign will only be spent on rent and food.

Stephen's not a toker, not a drinker and doesn’t even drink coffee. His need for financial assistance at this time is due solely to the SSA beauracracy not having notified him that his SSA account was not finalized and at 100%.

Please contribute whatever you can to help keep Stephen from falling through the cracks. As it is now he has a small in-law apartment that is warm and dry but finding another after the fact will be almost impossible.

At this point in his life Stephen does not have any family members to fall back on.

Again, all funds donated will go directly to pay for Stephen's rent and food.

At this time he is seriously behind in his rent payments and needs to pay some money to his landlord as soon as possible.

Your immediate help is very much appreciated.

Thanks.
