2/1/26 Update: Thank you all so much for the support! After talking to some of the families, we have slightly increased the total needed for this fundraiser in order to assist with utility payments for a few of the families. We will begin making rent payments to several of the landlords today.
The Need:
We are working directly with seven families (several with small children) in Minneapolis who have been impacted by the ongoing ICE raids and immigration enforcement. These families have been sheltering in place and are now unable to pay their rent due to lost work hours. There are no other funds currently able to assist these families despite checking with many different groups and other mutual aid efforts, so we are turning to the broader community to help keep them housed.
This GoFundMe will cover rent payments for the months of January and February 2026. Many of the families have small children, and some have had family members detained by ICE. Supporting this fundraiser helps give them a little bit of stability in these terrifying times, and a reminder that there are good people who will come together to support our neighbors.
What You Can Do:
- Donate what you are able. All funds raised will be used to pay landlords directly. Every little bit helps.
- Share with people you know. The need is overwhelming right now, and we know that many folks are already giving as much as they can. Even if you aren't able to donate anything yourself, please share this with everyone you know.

How We Know The Families:
We know these families from connecting with them in the community as our neighbors. In talking with them, we learned that they would not be able to pay their rent. After reaching out to all of the different rent funds, schools, and mutual aid groups that might be able to help, we were unable to find any groups that had rent funds available or that these families were eligible for. Due to this, we decided to raise the funds ourselves to ensure that these families do not fall through the cracks.
How Will We Make the Payments?
Funds raised will be used to cover rent and utility bills for the families. Rent will be paid directly to the landlords via money orders, and we have confirmed that the landlords will accept them. Utility bills will be paid directly to the utility companies or through the landlord, depending on the arrangement that the family has.
