Scott’s voice breaks when he talks about SueEllen: “She’s all I got…I don’t have family.” SueEllen is his 9-year-old Pit Bull/Great Dane mix—his constant companion, his comfort, and his reason to keep going. Nearly three years ago, Scott first met the Project Street Vet team at one of our free pop-up clinics in Los Angeles, where Dr. Kwane treated SueEllen for a painful ear infection. Since then, we’ve kept in touch with Scott.
Recently, Scott reached out again—this time scared. SueEllen was limping and struggling with a persistent runny nose, and he had no way to afford a veterinary exam. Through Project Street Vet’s financial assistance program, we stepped in and covered the cost of her care so Scott wouldn’t have to face that fear alone. After the visit, he told us, “Everything went great at the vet… thank you for helping me make sure she was okay. I was worried. As you know, she’s all I got… We both are very grateful.”
Scott is a devoted pet dad, even while battling serious health and financial challenges. He cooks meals for SueEllen and often feeds her before himself, stretching what little he has to keep her safe and cared for. Lately, the cost of living has become overwhelming, and he has even considered the unthinkable—giving her up—but their bond is too deep.
Now we’re asking for help to support both Scott and SueEllen: improving their living conditions, helping with medical and basic needs, and ensuring SueEllen has the ongoing care and supplies she deserves. Your donation isn’t just helping a dog—it’s keeping a family together.
Every dollar raised will go to them. I’d love to present him with a check that would be life changing but even if we just paid off his bills and stocked his fridge…that can also change a life. Thank you all! I’ll share another update soon!
