I am Roxann Whittingham, a Child and Youth Practitioner and advocate for black Youth in Simcoe County.
Samala is an international Student who was introduced to me last year. She's from my native country Jamaica. She's at risk of being sent out of college due to outstanding college fees owed from last semester. Samala is pursuing a course in Biotechnology at Mohawk college in Hamilton. She has not been allowed to start her final semester because she is unable to offset the outstanding amount owed to the college, and then start payments for her final semester. She has approximately 3 days left to come up with payments due.
Samala is a B+ student and a very ambitious young lady and she wants also to help her younger brother. Due to COVID19, her parents are unable to do due diligence and she also has difficulties sourcing substantial jobs to help herself. She's come a long way and to be kicked out of college in her final semester and the country will be devastating for herself and her family. They have invested everything to help change her destiny.
Any contribution made to this initiative will be greatly appreciated. We are heading into Black History Month and I believe this is a tangible way to show black youths that we care about their future and their wellbeing.
I have also started a scholarship fund (B.E.E.F), Black Education Empowerment Fund. You can see Georgian College Website to check out my validity. This fund was created to stimulate diversity in that college and to assist black students aspiring for post secondary education.
