In early November 2025, my former neighbor and friend, an asylum seeker and former resident of Philadelphia, PA, was detained by ICE officers in a targeted operation as he left his apartment with his wife and two young daughters. He had recently relocated from Philadelphia to New York State to pursue a job opportunity, and was hoping to build a life with his family there. He is currently faced with a removal order and his family is seeking funds to hire a lawyer to appeal this judgement.

My friend is Kurdish, a member of an ethnic group which has long faced oppression in Turkey. He and his wife fear for his safety if he is returned there.
