Help keep our friend Alexa safe

Alexa Rose is a trans woman, author, and honorably discharged veteran with disabilities related to her service. She’s a kind, compassionate woman with a huge heart, someone who has never hesitated to help anyone in need: financially, emotionally, or just as a shoulder to lean on through hard times. But right now, her life has been put on hold due to a spiral of difficult circumstances, and she could use any help she can get.

Two years ago, Alexa struggled with hiding her trans identity from her partner, friends and family. On top of that, she waged a daily battle against depression and PTSD. After a difficult and contentious breakup with her then-partner, Alexa was forced into a two-year legal nightmare. What followed became a litany of court appearances, of having to come out time and time again, and of having her private life torn apart and examined. However, the argument devolved into her word against her ex-partner’s word. When Alexa was cornered into making a choice between a trial or a plea agreement, she chose the plea agreement because even the slightest chance of having to spend any time in state custody as a trans woman was not only terrifying, but a potential threat to her safety and wellbeing.

Per the plea agreement, Alexa could not return home. Rather, she had to remain in a state and a city she had left two years ago. She has no family there and no support network except those friends she has made online or through work. She is alone in a city she does not wish to live in and will be there for the next 6 months.

Alexa has been living in a hotel for 2 weeks, and this expense has depleted most of the money she had saved for an apartment. Alexa needs your help with her rent and legal costs. She plans to use this experience to shine a light on the many forms of discrimination the LGBTQIA+ community faces, and she will continue to fight for equal rights and equal representation for all people.  Justice should not depend upon gender, race, or wealth.

Please help her secure a safe shelter during this extraordinarily difficult and frightening time. Truly, anything helps.
