So why are we creating this fundraiser?
For you, the fiberistas of Southern California.
Here’s what the reality of the yarn biz has been in So. Cal:
When we opened The Knitting Tree, L.A.
In 2013, there were 30 stores in L.A. County.
Today, just 6 years later, there are 17.
For us, our 2 closest stores have closed, flooding the market with sale yarn all summer. We invited in a fabric store to share our space, scaled down inventory by ⅓, and after a few months, the fabric store left, unfortunately leaving us with bare walls and depleted resources to restock our inventory.
The impact on our business has been swift, and left us having to rebuild our stock, almost from scratch, which for a small family owned and operated business is challenging.
Yet we as a community of knitters, crocheters, weavers, embroiderers, and spinners remain abundant. What we still have is an amazing space where the diversity of L.A. is reflected in each beautiful soul that walks through the door, or sits at the table. We have the best classes and teachers, and of course beautiful yarn and accessories. But most importantly, a thriving, creative and supportive fiber community!
We have always believed that Los Angeles is one of the greatest cities in the world, and ground zero for creativity and innovation! We are so lucky to be a part of this on a daily basis, and want with all of our hearts, to be able to continue.
So here’s what we are asking for:

You are important to us and we wish to continue to be a part of one of the best, most inviting and creative fiber communities in L.A. for you!
We have many plans. We want to bring back Rhinebeck West next year on an even bigger scale and show the rest of the country, that SoCal has its own unique brand of fiber wonderfullness!
We are investing in dying and weaving equipment, so that we can offer workshops and help our community members to fully realize their own creative visions.
We all know retail is changing. It’s up to all of us to restructure it and support it if we want to keep places like ours alive, thriving and growing to support and reflect the positive changes in the fiber community.
Investing in us is investing in you!
We are grateful for each and every one of you and hope you will be able to support us as we grow to serve you, our fiber arts community.
