Hello family and friends,

I know this is a very delicate issue, especially in times like these, but I am coming from a very sensitive place to ask for your support.

This week, a fear that undocumented families live with every single day became our reality. My father was in the middle of his work day when his typical day turned into something we have all long worried about. He was working for a farming company in Yuma, driving produce, when he was stopped by immigration and eventually detained.

This is a journey our family has been navigating and struggling with for many years, long before I was even born. Many of you who have been in this situation know how challenging it is. But nothing prepares you for the moment it actually happens.

These past few days have felt like some of the longest days of my life for my family as we begin this legal process and try to secure the best possible representation for him. As we move forward, we are finding ourselves overwhelmed with the reality of the legal fees that come with fighting his case.

He has lived in the United States now for longer than he had in a El Salvador. This is his home. His family is here. His life is here. We can’t think of life here without him. We want him to stay here and want to do everything we can to accomplish this. He has been a contributing member of society. He takes care of his wife and kids, works hard, and pays taxes. He often says he can’t go to sleep unless he has a full days of work, this is how hard of a worker he is.

But between the sudden loss of his income and the weight of legal expenses, we are beginning to feel the strain and are reaching out to our community for support during this time.

I know this is a very delicate and personal issue in our country right now, and part of me struggled with whether to ask for help at all. But I also know my father is loved and supported by so many people, and any support, whether financial, sharing this fundraiser, or simply keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers means more than I can express.

Hola familia y amigos, Sé que este es un tema muy delicado, especialmente en tiempos como estos, pero vengo desde un lugar muy sensible para pedirles su apoyo.

 Esta semana, un miedo con el que muchas familias indocumentadas viven todos los días se volvió nuestra realidad. Mi papá estaba en medio de su jornada laboral cuando su día típico se convirtió en algo que siempre hemos temido. Estaba trabajando para una compañía agrícola en Yuma, manejando producto, cuando fue detenido por inmigración y posteriormente puesto bajo custodia. Este es un proceso que nuestra familia ha estado enfrentando y luchando por muchos años, desde mucho antes de que yo naciera. Muchos de ustedes que han pasado por situaciones similares saben lo difícil que es. Pero nada te prepara para el momento en que realmente sucede.

Estos últimos días se han sentido como algunos de los más largos de mi vida para nuestra familia, mientras comenzamos este proceso legal e intentamos asegurar la mejor representación posible para él. Al avanzar, nos estamos sintiendo abrumados con la realidad de los costos legales que conlleva pelear su caso. Él ha vivido en los Estados Unidos por más tiempo del que vivió en El Salvador. Este es su hogar. Su familia está aquí. Su vida está aquí. No podemos imaginar la vida aquí sin él. Queremos que se quede y queremos hacer todo lo posible para lograrlo. Ha sido un miembro contribuyente de la sociedad. Cuida de su esposa y sus hijos, trabaja duro y paga impuestos. Siempre dice que no puede dormir tranquilo si no ha tenido un día completo de trabajo así de trabajador es.  

Pero entre la pérdida repentina de su ingreso y el peso de los gastos legales, estamos comenzando a sentir la carga y estamos recurriendo a nuestra comunidad en busca de apoyo durante este tiempo. Sé que este es un tema muy delicado y personal en nuestro país en este momento, y parte de mí dudó en pedir ayuda. Pero también sé que mi papá es querido y apoyado por muchas personas, y cualquier apoyo, ya sea financiero, compartiendo esta campaña, o simplemente manteniendo a nuestra familia en sus pensamientos y oraciones significa más de lo que puedo expresar.
