My name is Rosana, and I am fundraising to keep my son, Javan, housed and in school during an incredibly difficult time. After two years of setbacks, losses, and medical uncertainty, he has finally found his calling in Professional Counseling — but he is now at risk of losing everything.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Two years ago, Javan was suddenly struck by an unknown nerve disorder that left him unable to work. Instead of supporting him through their extended benefits program, his employer fired him without cause. We have been waiting 19 months for a Human Rights Tribunal date.
Since then, he has battled:
• A debilitating medical condition with no diagnosis
• Repeated hospital visits
• Loss of employment
• Loss of financial stability
• Loss of confidence and self‑worth
He tries every day to rebuild his strength at a free gym, but the setbacks are constant. I’ve had to pick him up off the floor more times than I can count.
A New Beginning — and Another Roadblock
In January, something changed. Javan enrolled in Rhodes Wellness College to become a counselor — determined to help others who have experienced trauma, loss, and hardship like he has.
He aced his first term, earning top grades in his class. His passion for helping others is real, deep, and needed.
But now, he is facing a crisis that could force him to drop out.
He is $14,000 short of his assessed need for basic living expenses.
As a single mature student, he is penalized by the student aid system. Most of his loan is automatically sent to the school, leaving almost nothing for:
• Rent
• Food
• Transportation
• Books
• Basic living costs
His next term award will be $6,000 to last him 6 months - he needs to cover all of the above expenses. His rent alone is $1,800 per month! That allows him 3 months of rent but nothing left for the rest.
We live in Victoria, one of the most expensive cities in Canada. Even after moving to a cheaper apartment, he will not be able to afford rent in a few months.
Without help, he will be forced out of school and at serious risk of homelessness.
Why I Can’t Just Pay for Everything Myself
I have supported Javan for almost a year — food, housing, transportation, and even funding a startup business that unfortunately collapsed due to the wrong people taking advantage of him. I give everything I can, but I am a small business owner myself, and there is nothing left to give.
I also care for three elderly family members and continuously give to others. My work as a High‑Conflict Separation and Divorce Consultant often involves giving time freely to clients in crisis.
I am doing everything I can. But I cannot do this alone.
Why Javan Deserves This Chance
Javan is:
• Bright
• Empathetic
• Intuitive
• Deeply committed to helping others
• A natural counselor with lived experience that could change lives
He has survived more in two years than many do in a lifetime. And still, he gets up every day and tries again.
He wants to turn his pain into purpose — to help others heal.
How You Can Help
If 1,000 people donated $20, Javan would be able to:
• Stay housed
• Stay fed
• Stay in school
• Finish his program
• Become a counselor who pays it forward
Even $5–$10 makes a difference.
If you cannot donate, please share this story. Every share helps more than you know.
From a Mom Who Is Trying Her Hardest
I am fighting for my son’s future — for his safety, his education, and his chance to become someone who helps others rise from their darkest moments.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for reading, sharing, and supporting us in any way you can.
— Rosana
