Fast forward to Wednesday, Lucas headed into surgery with his stuffed tiger, a great attitude and his family, all while singing "Jesus Loves Me" until he fell asleep. It was the longest 7.5 hours of our lives but the surgery had been completed by an exceptional surgical team, and included the removal of the entire, intact, tumor and one of his kidneys. Over the course of the following days, the results from the biopsy came in and the diagnosis of cancer was confirmed. Fortunately, Lucas is one heck of a fighter and was released from the hospital early because he was healing quickly.
While the first, and hopefully the largest hurdle has been cleared, there is still a long road ahead for treatment. There is a very clear prognosis for treatment and he will start chemo this week and will likely run for around 5 months. Lucas, Chris, Nickie, and Scottie will need all the support they can get and they thank you in advance. It's been unbelievable to see how God has had his hand on this situation and all of the support and outpouring of love that has been brought forth during this diffucult time.
While they're uncertain of the medical expenses that this point, there have been numerous people who have reached out to help in any way possible. As a group of family, friends, and neighbors near and far, we came together and decided that this is the best way for people to give back to the family that has touched us all. We appreciate all of you who have already helped in numerous ways and don't feel that you have to give again. Thank you all in advance and let's get to work on helping this family!
***Note, we've set a goal, but we want to hit and surpass this. Any funding donated to the Powells that goes above their expenses will be donated to charity by those who donated on behalf of Lucas and the Powell Family.
