Hello friends, family members, and acquaintances, we're posting this as a last chance effort to keep Laura (McLean) Hipshire at the assisted living facility she's at now. In December 2023, Laura fell while using a walker at home due to a shortness of breath and unsteadiness. Previously she was diagnosed with blood clots in the legs and chest, then hospitalized, given medications and sent home before she was fully recovered. Her fall would not have happened if that hospital hadn't released her too soon. After her fall, her health took a downward turn and she ended up in a coma for several weeks. The doctors said she wouldn't make it, but Laura persevered and got off of the ventilator. Since then she's been at two more hospitals and Medilodge, where she's at now. Her insurance is cutting her off, leaving her responsible for private pay, which is $275 per day (not including physical therapy).

She expects to be able to go home in about 30-45 days. In the meantime, the facility wants to be paid for days past due as well as another month. It is not safe for her to go home yet, which would put her at risk for another fall and more serious health issues. As of today she can't get physical therapy services until a substantial payment is made. Her fiance, Jeff, works full time plus OT so she would be alone all day with no help. Hiring a nurse or aide 12 hours or more per day would also be very expensive. As Laura's family members, we believe this is a life or death situation. If you can spare anything to help Laura fully recover and walk safely it would really impact her life in a positive way.
