Hello, My name is RJ. I am writing cliff notes to why I am asking for help with my mothers house.
I don't know where to begin or even where to start as I don't even like coming here to ask for help.
Ill try to make this short as I feel the back story is really needed to understand fully why I am asking for help to get my moms house at least livable.
My family has never really been wealthy nor did they have "business skills" when it came to money however they were able to make ends meet by both being extremely hard workers. My dad a life Marine (serving during the Korean and Vietnam era) and also serving in the Army as well as the Army National Guard made sure he did his civic duty protecting the country he truly believed in back then. This would later bite him and my mom hard in the end, Ill explain later. My mom worked for a mental hospital till her department closed and she was layed off so immediately she started a part time job in a deli and a part time job in a veterans nursing care facility as a laborer. Lets jump ahead to near present time.
In 2020 my fathers dementia and paranoia schizophrenia grabbed him hard and he was admitted to a local nursing care facility after a kidney shutdown in which the hospital he was in recommended.
While in the facility his mental state grew worse as he watched our country burn as well as deal with the pandemic and there was nothing he could do (even though physically he would still would've been very restricted) In August of 2020 he succumbed to his illness. This is where the devastation began. Preparing for a military funeral at Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman Ohio with Redmon funeral homes in order they received noticed to deny my father a proper burial as they stated they could find NO record of him EVER serving launching a possible criminal investigation. Reaching out to numerous military divisions and red tape as well as jumping through tons of hoop's the end result was always the same, he was a fraud and never served, "stolen glory" even when we knew this was simply not true. His procession was immediately denied and his body was put on hold. My mom and my dads Marine League (in which he was vice commandant for many years where in complete shock) At that time due to the pandemic funerals were not allowed to be more than 15 minutes due to soldiers dying and the pandemic, You could stay as long as you like afterwards but the procession could not be longer than 15 minutes. Having no place to bury him and time moving on I had to do the thing he begged me to never do..... have him cremated as they can only hold a body for so long.
With all these things and turmoil within the family towards my mom the toll became almost impossible however she endured as eventually the truth came to light.
My mom, a breast cancer chemo survivor with one kidney from kidney cancer and a mesh that fell out one time from a severe slice while working a meat slicer in the deli as well as thyroid problem continued to work to make the bills left behind as well as the medical bills from my father in tow get paid all while the house around her that I grew up in started to go without care. She was finally forced to retire from both jobs due to health even though you will still catch her mowing grass and shoveling her drive when she can.
I did what I could and still do what I can but now mass repairs for a roof and a bathroom that has a rotted wall and no drain causing her to come by here when weather permits or schedule for hygiene otherwise creating her situation for dumping buckets as well as her leaning unattached garage and 24 year old on the edge furnace. My mom is proud and offerings of living with family are firmly not accepted. She is on a fixed income and it is set for a house payment and utilities, she gets by with her faith and phone watching YouTube when she cant be outside. This is something she would be upset about and im hoping to keep it a secret till the day the goal is reached. As for my dad, 4 years later with the help of Senator Sherrod Brown and Joe Manchin ( My father started his service in WV and ended in Ohio) his DoD 214 was found as well as his accommodation's however it was to way to late. For those who are curious he was in the 1092nd Army Engineers and in The U.S Marines he was 98th Special Infantry assigned
to Kennedy.
The GoFundMe I am setting up is to help my mom with her expenses to repair her home as the banks have denied her as well as senior assistant programs. Housing in the 3 state area at the time of this presentation has a 6 to 12 month wait just to have your application reviewed and not be accepted as we even looked into placement.
The photos I present are to just show my sincerity and honesty of this story.
I thank you for just taking a moment to hear my plea and read my moms story as to why I am telling her story.
