Please Help! I need to help this Veteran keep his home!
Meet Jan - He is a 74 year old US Army Veteran. He served Active Duty from 1969 - 1971. He is an incredible human. Here is the story of how we met. In February 2020 I was standing in my Real Estate office at Keller Williams, when this man walks in asking to speak with a Realtor. I happened to be available. When I took him to the conference room, he handed me a piece of mail that he received from another Realtor, explaining that there were interested buyers in his condo. Seemed simple at the time... I’m a Realtor and I can totally help sell a condo. It seemed that it was my lucky day. As our conversation progressed and I was able to dive deeper into his backstory, I learned that Jan was actually being foreclosed on. As it turned out, he was set to have a Sheriff sale March 6, 2020. He wasn't just looking to sell his condo, he was really seeking help. He didn't know what he should do. Since this first interaction, I have spent hours and hours sorting through everything and trying different avenues to help him save his home. In all honesty, I am learning on the go, as I haven't dealt with a foreclosure before. (Thank you Dane for your guidance).
Since February and all through covid, Jan has become my friend. I’ve been scrambling to help save this Veteran's home. This has been quite an adventure with home visits because Jan does not even have a phone. Jan has no debt and no credit. At the time I met him, he brought home $618/ month to live on. This is what ultimately put him into foreclosure. Struggling to pay his HOA, medical expenses, taxes, insurance, utilities, and still eat. When I saw this I was baffled. This left us with the inability to try any type of finance, with no credit and minimal income. That is when I became his authorized representative and went on a mission to get him more money. Since then, I have helped him receive a VA pension benefit. Jan is now receiving much more income per month and we are working on connecting him with some additional resources, so he does not end up back in his current situation. I am also looking at a financial consultant for him, as well. As of right now, I am serving in that role for him, and we have found some traction. He is certainly living frugally, but can afford his HOA, Taxes, etc.
I have made this veteran's home my mission. I NEED to keep this Veteran in his home because he IS going to be homeless. The condo is paid off and now we are at a fork in the road. We need to redeem his property and pay the back taxes, or we have to sell his property. The truth is, I can’t even fathom where he goes from there because the money would be so minimal, he wouldn’t make it very far with the cost of rent. If you’re thinking about different places of help, I bet I’ve called or tried them. That’s what brings me to the Go Fund me. I have no other choice and I have exhausted all options and we are on a time crunch. Jan and I met for a reason and I want to help him! I have given him my word. I will stick by him through this. His life is in my hands and now I’m asking for your help! I cannot let Jan lose his home!
Jan’s foreclosure redemption is $7764. That does not include his total back taxes and other fees totaling $7236. I need to raise $15,000 by September 2nd, 2020 to save his home. Please help if you can and if there’s one post you share, I’m asking you please share this one! Thank you all in advance!
