Hi guys, if you’re reading this you probably already know me and how much I hate asking for help.
For context: I currently live in a railroad apartment on the exterior side of a building. The door to my bedroom is accessible via the building’s hallway, and I need to enter that hallway in order to access the bathroom and kitchen. Even with the curtains and blinds shut, the inside of my room is partially visible from the street.
On November 4th, someone slipped a very creepy and vaguely threatening note under the door to my bedroom.
Around 6 am on Sunday, November 14th, I woke up to two men attempting to break into my room. When they didn’t succeed, they left the building and had a conversation about it on the street outside of my window, which I was able to partially overhear. It was enough to confirm that the attempted break-in was intentional and targeted.
I’ve been to the police, who told me that no crime will have occurred until they actually manage to gain entry to my apartment, and our landlord is being uncooperative about increasing security measures.
I’m currently staying with incredibly generous and understanding friends, so I’m safe for the moment. However, I don’t feel comfortable returning to my apartment as things currently stand.
$2,400 would cover the security deposit and first month’s (increased) rent at a new, beautiful apartment in a safe neighborhood. If that goal is somehow exceeded, I’d use the rest to cover moving expenses and help ensure that my new home feels comfortable and secure.
The last few days have made up one of the scariest, most stressful periods of my life, and a little help would go a long way. Thank you.
