We are Hackney WFC, and we need your help to keep our club thriving in East London. On our 40 year anniversary, we are raising funds to ensure Hackney WFC can secure local facilities and continue to thrive right here in East London for the next 40 years.
Founded in 1986, Hackney WFC was Europe’s first totally women-run, openly gay football club. For 40 years, we’ve been more than just a football team. We’ve been an institution founded on Hackney Marshes, offering a safe and inclusive space where women and non-binary people across East London can play football. However, rising facility and pitch costs across London are threatening our ability to train and play in the very community we have spent four decades building.
Why we’re fundraising
Like many grassroots teams, we are up against surging costs for facility hire. Running the club costs around £470 per player each year, but we refuse to pass these costs on to our players. Keeping football affordable and accessible is central to who we are, but the financial reality of renting training facilities in East London means we need support.
Your support will go directly towards:
- Securing East London training facilities: Covering the rising costs of local pitch hire, coaching, and matchday access, keeping our roots firmly planted in our home community.
- Keeping football affordable: Providing low-cost subscriptions for players to ensure income is never a barrier to entry.
- Resources for the future: Providing new training equipment and resources to keep the club competitive and player-led.

Hackney WFC was founded as a safe and welcoming space for LGBT+ women to play football, and community remains at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to making the game accessible to as many women and non-binary people as possible, regardless of background, experience, or income.
