Hi everyone, my name is Avalon and I'm raising funds for a friend of mine and her daughter so they can secure safe & stable housing.

Erica is an incredible community organizer, mother, friend, advocate, and mentor. I had the fortune of meeting Erica a few years ago while she was organizing a fight for in-person visitation rights in the local Riverside jails. Her energy, warmth, and sense of humor drew me to the work I currently do in Riverside County. As a formerly incarcerated woman, she has successfully advocated at the state and local level for crucial changes to our criminal justice system.

A few months ago, Erica unfortunately lost her job and consequently her housing. She is searching for stable housing, but the process has been incredibly difficult as a result of her criminal record and low credit score. (It is legal for landlords and property owners to discriminate against applicants on the basis of their criminal record.)

She's been actively seeking employment and applying for positions in fields like homeless outreach. She's extremely well qualified for the positions she has applied for, but is facing discrimination in that process as well. As a result of these circumstances, she and her daughter are currently staying in a hotel for $100 a night. She remains optimistic that she will find stable employment and housing soon, but could use some support in the interim. Please give whatever you can, and share widely.
