What is happening to my husband, Carlos, is inhumane. Despite having a legal withholding of removal order in the United States, ICE is ignoring it and trying to send him to Mexico—a country he is not even from. Carlos has no family, no money, no home, and no shelter in Mexico. He would be sent there completely alone, separated from his wife and children, who are natural-born United States citizens. This is their home, the only life they know, and now they are being forced to watch their father be taken away as if he doesn’t matter.
Carlos has lived in the United States since he was a child. His entire life is here—his family, his work, and his community. His children are devastated, unable to sleep or focus in school, terrified they are going to lose their father forever. We are not asking for special treatment; we are asking for his asylum to be respected and for his case to be reviewed before it’s too late. Sending a man with a legal withholding order away from his U.S.-citizen wife and children to a country he has no connection to is not justice, it is not safe, and it is inhumane.
While in ICE custody, Carlos has been subjected to harsh and degrading conditions. He has not been able to shower, is forced to eat expired military food, must use the restroom in front of everyone, has no shelter, and is sleeping on a concrete floor. He is packed shoulder to shoulder with over 60 others in a single room. These conditions are not only unsafe but deeply humiliating and traumatic.
We are reaching out for help to cover attorney fees so we can fight for Carlos’s right to stay with his family and ensure his asylum is honored. Our family is being destroyed in real time, and we are desperate for support. Please, as a fellow human being, help us keep our family together and ensure Carlos receives the justice he deserves. Any support you can give means the world to us.
1 month Update on Carlos-
Carlos had his interview with ICE yesterday. We were told we would hear something within 24 hours about what happens next. Unfortunately, it has now been over 30 hours and we still have not received any update.
The waiting and uncertainty is extremely frustrating and emotionally exhausting for our family. Watching someone you love be treated like a criminal, when he is a husband, father, and someone who has built his life here, is incredibly painful.
We are continuing to stay strong and hopeful, but this system makes it very hard. Please continue to keep Carlos and our family in your prayers. We truly appreciate everyone who has been supporting us through this difficult time.
