Our Arlington neighbors, Abdallah, his wife, and their sweet 1.5-year-old daughter, are facing eviction and urgently need our help. They are $9,000 behind on their rent, and their landlord already began eviction proceedings. Without assistance, they will find themselves without shelter.

Abdallah and his wife are Green Card holders. They won the visa lottery and immigrated to the U.S. with great hopes for a bright future. Their daughter was born here in Arlington and is thriving. Both parents have advanced degrees, but have been unable to find stable work, and their income does not cover the costs of living. They have been slowly slipping into debt, and have no local family or support network to help.

The family is now on the waitlist for a family shelter, but the wait is several months long. If evicted, they will have nowhere safe to go. Their first eviction hearing was on October 2.

As you can imagine, they are overwhelmed with worry. Abdallah recently told me he would give his life so that his wife and daughter would not end up on the street. I assured him this would not be necessary. I know we can find a way to make sure our neighbors have a roof over their head!

Our neighborhood is so generous and welcoming. Let's make some Arlington magic happen. Please, let's band around this young family and make sure they can avoid eviction.
