Help Keep Vietnam Veteran Ron Braden in Memory Care
We’re reaching out on behalf of Ronald Evans Braden, an 83-year-old Vietnam War veteran, father, craftsman, and lifelong community volunteer who now needs our help.
Ron served our country with honor as a medic in Vietnam, dedicating himself to caring for others. After his military service, he built a life of steady work and community service, retiring from Corning Inc. and spending his free time building beautiful woodworking projects—many of which he sold at local street fairs. He always lent a helping hand—whether it was spending a summer painting a friend’s house for free or spending hours mentoring young men who needed guidance and a good listener.
Five years ago, Ron moved into an assisted living facility. About a year ago, his condition declined and he was transferred to memory care, where he now receives the specialized support he needs. Unfortunately, the cost is $6,100 per month, and his savings have been depleted. Ron’s only income—about $2,875 per month from Social Security and a pension—falls far short of what’s needed. He doesn’t qualify for Medicaid because his income is above the eligibility threshold. His income must also go toward medications, personal care supplies, and hygiene items such as pull-up briefs—all essential for his daily well-being.
This leaves a monthly shortfall of over $3,200 just to cover the cost of memory care. Without financial help, Ron will be forced to leave his care facility within weeks.
His only daughter is willing to take him into her home if necessary, but she works full-time and cannot provide the supervision or care he requires. His income could be used for in-home care, but it would only cover a few hours each day—far from what’s needed for someone with advanced memory loss.
We are hoping to raise $45,000, which would allow Ron to remain in memory care for one more year, giving him the safety, dignity, and support he deserves.
If we don’t reach the full goal, all donations will go toward securing as many hours of in-home professional care as possible. If Ron passes away and any funds remain, they will be donated to another individual or family facing the same struggle—to help cover the cost of memory care.
Ron has always lived a life of service—to his country, his neighbors, and his community. Now, we hope his community can give back.
Please consider donating and sharing this campaign. Your generosity can help Ron live out his remaining time with the care and dignity he has earned.
With gratitude,
